Teodoro de Croix
Description
Portrait of Teodoro de Croix, appointed as brigadier in 1776 by King Charles III of Spain, he served as the inaugural general commander of the Internal Provinces of the North of New Spain. These provinces encompassed Nueva Vizcaya, Santa Fe de Nuevo México, Nuevo León, Coahuila, Sonora and Sinaloa, Las Californias, and Texas. However, this authority triggered multiple revolts among indigenous groups, necessitating their involvement in military defense, civil colonization, and the conversion of the sparsely populated territory's indigenous inhabitants.
