Description
In 1866, the Lower California Company commissioned an inspection of the territories that the Mexican government had granted it in concession in Baja California. The commission was commanded by the renowned J. Ross Browne, who was associated with Ferdinand von Löhr and William More Gabb (geologist). The group traveled to Cabo San Lucas and moved north in a zig-zag pattern, covering most of the narrow peninsula. Gabb's works were the first since Clavijero that offered reliable information (although little) about the original inhabiting group, the Cochimi.
